Update 1.4: Kids Grow Up

Arriving together with the Nintendo Switch 2 release, Update 1.4 brings new milestones, cutscenes, and interactions as your children grow older and develop their own interests.

There are four stages as your children grow up: baby, toddler, school-age, and teenager. At the school-age stage, they'll be around the same age as the current NPC kids, like Zoe.

Hi, Archie!

  • Watch your kids grow. See your children grow through four life stages, from baby and toddler to school-age child and teenager. Experience new family milestones, cutscenes, and interactions as they grow older and develop their own personalities.

  • Help shape their future. As your children grow, they'll begin to develop their own interests. Support them as they explore hobbies like music, sports, baking, or gaming, and see how their interests shape their personalities and experiences as teenagers.

  • Discover a new side of your spouse. Parenthood brings new experiences for the whole family! See how your spouse takes on their role as a parent through new dialogue, interactions, and family cutscenes as you raise your children together.

  • Watch the neighborhood kids grow up. Your children aren't the only ones growing older! The other kids in Starlet Town, including familiar faces like Archie, will grow into teenagers too. Get to know them as they enter a new stage of life, with new stories and interactions along the way.

We're adding fishing bobbers! These cute little accessories float and bob around in the water while you fish. Unlock them through Fishing Mastery, then buy a variety of fun designs at the Beach Shack!

For our Nintendo Switch Backers

We know many of you have been waiting a long time to play Coral Island on Nintendo Switch hardware. Thank you for sticking with us!

Due to strict platform and performance limitations, we unfortunately won't be able to bring Coral Island to Nintendo Switch as we'd originally hoped. We are, however, excited to be able to launch the game on Nintendo Switch 2 later this winter.

We are so grateful for all of our Nintendo Switch backers, so: If you originally backed the Nintendo Switch version of Coral Island, we are happy to upgrade you to a Nintendo Switch 2 key at no extra cost for your pledge reward. You can also choose to receive a Steam, PlayStation 5, or XBOX Series X|S key instead.

Here's what will happen next:

Oct 16, 2026: We'll send out a BackerKit survey to Nintendo Switch backers so you can confirm your new platform selection.

Nov 5, 2026: We ask that you confirm your new platform selection by this date. If we don't hear from you by then, we'll go ahead and provide you a Steam key so you'll still have a copy of the game.

By default, the platform you choose for your pledge reward (Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, PS5, or XBOX Series X|S) will also apply to extra game copies you purchased as add-ons. If you'd like to select different platforms for your add-on purchases, send an email to contact@stairwaygames.com by Nov 5, 2026 so that our team can help with your request manually.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure you're happy with your alternate platform selections before submitting your BackerKit survey. We'll be purchasing console keys for each backer individually, so we may not be able to accommodate any changes once your key has been ordered.

What’s Next?

We’ll announce the exact release date closer to launch, followed by a full overview of Update 1.4 and the Nintendo Switch 2 release on launch day.
