HEYO! Welcome to the October 2025 Funguys Swarm Dev Update!

Our first major update: Lava Jungle is here, let’s go bananas! But, before that, we would like to thank you all for this achievement. Funguys Swarm just hit an Overwhelmingly Positive review on Steam!

ree

This time, we'll show you a more detailed view of the Lava Jungle, a more in-depth explanation of the new revamped weapon system, and our very first Mecha!

Lava Jungle Arena

ree

Lava Jungle Arena is our hottest and most difficult level yet. The area is filled with pools of lava, where one wrong step will mean taking damage.

Hazard: Hot Lava

ree

[This floor is literally lava]

Standing in the lava will make your character glow red, and after a brief delay, you’ll start taking damage. Better save that dash while avoiding enemies, hah!

Enemies 1: Volcana

ree

[Careful—this one’s on a molten mood swing.]

Enemies 2: Headbutter

ree

[Head first, questions never]

Enemies 3: Cave Bomber

ree

[Brings the party… and the aftermath.]

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No—it’s Potato Bot!

ree

[Boom boom, keep shooting and feel the powahhh]

Lava Jungle hard? Don't worry! We gotchu fam.

Introducing Potato Bot, a powerful mecha bot that is unlocked once you unlock Lava Jungle Arena. You can jump while piloting Potato Bot and can shoot exploding potato bombs. Once the blue bar is charged, it will release a special attack.

Charge the bar:

ree

There are 3 mecha charge bars. The bar charges automatically over time but fills faster as you defeat more enemies.

ree

Once at least one bar is charged, you can press the "Call Mecha" button to transform into Potato Bot. If you save up and charge multiple bars at once you get a bonus duration so you can stay in Potato Bot longer.

Release the Ultimate Attack:

ree

[That’s what I call a smash potato!]

As you deal more damage to enemies, you’ll notice the blue bar filling up. This is the ultimate attack bar. Fill it up, and once it’s full, press the button to unleash the ultimate attack and cause absolute mayhem!

Hornet Spike Weapon

ree

[Sharp, stylish, and straight to the point—meet the Hornet Spike.]

Hornet Spike is a weapon for sharpshooter players. You can charge the Hornet to release a spike that travels farther than a normal one. All spikes pierce through enemies, allowing you to damage multiple foes at once, perfect for lined-up packs!

Reworked weapon system: Weapons Card

ree

We’ve reworked our weapon system! Now, every 3 levels, you can pick a Weapon Card to level up your weapon, and every 12 levels, you can choose a Weapon Mutation.

How to mutate your weapons:

ree

Every 3 levels, you will be able to pick a weapon card augment. Each weapon card augment can have a rarity of Common, Rare, or Epic. Higher rarities provide stronger stat upgrades.

ree

Every 12 levels, you will be able to pick a weapon mutation.

ree

[Gotta be, gotta be golden]

A weapon mutation is a powerful skill that lets you strengthen your playstyle. We’ve added 10 mutations for each weapon, allowing you to explore the many different possibilities offered by the new Weapon Card system.

What mutating weapons means for your run:

ree

Weapon Cards add variety and replayability to each run. You can create a build that relies on attack speed, or one that focuses on attack damage.

Each build relies on the augments and mutations to strengthen a particular playstyle.

We hope this adds even more variation to each run.

What is next?

That’s all for now, folks! Next time we’ll be showing off:

  1. The next clucky arena.

  2. Debuff Mutations and how to use them.

  3. and many more!

Thank you,

Stairway Games
